South Dakotaaaa

PJ had the whole weekend off so we packed up and decided to take advantage of it. We took a road trip to South Dakotaaaaaa. 8 + hours in the car with a baby.... I was certain I was going to go crazy! But surprisingly Jaxson did pretty darn good! (He usually HATES the car) We drove alllll day Friday, finally got to our camp site around 9 pm and went straight to bed so that we were ready for our big day the next day!! unfortunately it was absolutely FREEZING, the entire weekend. The first night I froze. I had many layers on, two blankets, and a sleeping bag..... but none of them seemed to work. :( My hands were so cold they froze and went to sleep, completely NUMB.... Not fun at all. Overall the trip was sooo much fun, I had a BLAST. And I'm so glad the Hawkes brought me along. :)

This was in the MIDDLE OF NO WHERE. hahaha of course we had to stop and take a picture.

One of our other detours..... The bad lands. it was preeettty cool :)

So the second day in South Dakota, after our long day site seeing fog.. Kelli and I were sitting around somewhat of a camp fire cooking our tin foil dinners when we found a TICK on one of our camping chairs!! I freaked out.... I am pretty sure that I have my lovely Grandma McKee's genes when it comes to being careful & paranoid about things. Because the rest of the trip I was overly paranoid and worrying the ENTIRE time. When we got home I kept everything outside until the next day... and washed EVERYTHING and vacuumed EVERYTHING. Sheesh I am not a fan of any kind of bug.

New S'more invention..... AMAZING!!!

umm they call this a fire pit...........

OH! this is Crazy Horse the first day...

Just a little bit of South Dakota

So on Saturday we woke up and it was FREEZING and really foggy & misty. We thought that it would clear up...but NO it didn't! :( It was in the 30's the entire day. It was pretty miserable, but thankfully we were in the car most of the day... staying warm. We first stopped at Crazy Horse... we watched a 20 minute movie clip about the history behind it. It was really interesting but if you asked me now I wouldn't for the life of me be able to tell you.

Then we went to Slyvan Lake.. Kelli really wanted to see it. It was SUCH a beautiful lake but again it was so misty and foggy.

Our last stop was MT RUSHMORE!!! yay!! :) I was really afraid that we wouldn't be able to see the mountain at all, but we were able to see it pretty good in real life....... we just had a hard time getting some good pictures.

Okay!!! here is DAY 2!!! SOOO much better. We couldn't even see the moutain at all at Crazy Horse the first day.

Pit Stop Anyone?????
On our way home, we made a detour to see "Carhenge".... It was somewhere in Nebraska. But it made the drive soo much longer it felt like. ALLLL day in the car is not that fun... but at some point you always get hyper. ya know??
